East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball redshirt sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Fears led the Spartans to a pair of wins last week, beating Oregon on the road, 68-52, and following up with a 91-48 win over Maryland at home, the second-largest margin of victory in a Big Ten game in MSU history.
The Spartans, winners of six-straight games, improved to 18-2 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten.
Fears averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 assists in the two games to secure his first career Player of the Week honor.
He started the week with 14 points and five assists in the win at Oregon and followed it up with a game-high 17 points and a career-best 17 assists, the second-most in a single game in program history.
Fears shared the award with Illinois freshman guard Keaton Wagler.
Fears and the Spartans, ranked No. 7 in the country by the Associated Press and No. 8 in the ESPN Coaches poll, play at Rutgers on Tuesday night, Jan. 27 in New Jersey. Tipoff time at the RAC is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will air on FS1, with Jason Benetti and Bill Raftery calling the action.
