
Brahmbhatt Named Women’s Tennis Big Ten Player to Watch

Sophomore Spartan earns Big Ten recognition after a successful freshman and fall season.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis player Amara Brahmbhatt was named Big Ten Player to Watch entering the spring season of 2026, announced by the conference on Monday.
Brahmbhatt is in her sophomore season with the Spartans after slating a highly successful freshman season. The Columbus, Ohio native competed in three tournaments during the fall portion of the schedule, appearing at the ITA All-American Championships, Wolverine Invitational and the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
In her premiere sophomore appearance, Brahmbhatt went 1-1 in the ITA All-American Championships, falling in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Amelie Smejkalova of Clemson, but won her consolation match against Notre Dame's Bianca Molnar in a slim 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) victory.
Following was the Wolverine Invitational, where Amara put up a 2-3 overall record against various big ten foes in singles and doubles contention.
Closing out her fall action, Brahmbhatt competed in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, where she made it to the round of sixteen before falling, claiming an overall 3-2 record.
During her freshman season, Brahmbhatt logged a 19-9 overall singles record, appearing on courts 2, 3 and 5. She posted a six-match win streak spanning from January through March. Notably, Brahmbhatt also posted the only point in the Big Ten Tournament for the Green & White, beating USC's Immi Haddad, 6-3, 6-1.
Brahmbhatt and the Spartans open the 2026 portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 24 in College Station, Texas taking on Texas A&M at the ITA Kickoff. MSU hosts Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, February 1, with times still to be announced at a later date.
