MSU Men’s Tennis Player Alazmeh Helps Syria Make History

Spartan junior Alazmeh clinches decisive match in World Group II Play-Off tie.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior Taym Alazmeh represented Team Syria this past weekend at the Davis Cup, held at the UL Sport Arena in Limerick, Ireland, and the Spartan helped Syria to a historic win and advance in the World Group II.
Heading into weekend competition, Team Syria was ranked No. 72, while host Team Ireland was ranked No. 50. This weekend's victory marks Team Syria's biggest Davis Cup achievement.
Alazmeh played in both singles and doubles for Team Syria, who competed against Ireland in the first round of World Group ||, taking an early lead with the doubles point. Alazmeh teamed up with Hazem Naw to defeat Charles Barry and Conor Gannon of Ireland in a thrilling 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 battle.
Heading into singles action, Alazmeh was set to battle Michael Agwi. In an exciting straight-set match, Alazmeh came out victorious 6-1, 6-4, clinching the 3-2 win for Team Syria.
Team Syria will play again in World Group || in September. Alazmeh is ranked No. 954 in singles and No. 1120 in doubles.
