This Week In Spartan Athletics – March 10
Here's a look at the week ahead (March 10-16) for Michigan State Athletics:
Hockey
No. 3 Michigan State is the regular-season Big Ten Champion for the third straight season. As a result, MSU is the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will host a semifinal contest on Saturday. Opponent and time will be determined following Wednesday's quarterfinals.
Men's Basketball
No. 8 Michigan State enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Spartans will play Friday night at Chicago's United Center in the quarterfinals against the winner of Thursday's contest between No. 6 UCLA and No. 11 Minnesota/No. 14 Rutgers in the United Center in Chicago. Friday's contest will be televised by BTN and tip at approximately 9 p.m. ET. The semifinals and finals will be televised by CBS. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air Sunday at 6 p.m.
Women's Basketball
No. 20 Michigan State will learn its seeding and opponent during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN. The Spartans are likely to earn their best seed since the 2016 tournament, when they were seeded No. 4.
Baseball
Michigan State's midweek game vs. Eastern Michigan has been moved to Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Ypsilanti. This weekend, the Spartans are in Piscataway, New Jersey, for a three-game series at Rutgers.
Track
Two members of the Michigan State Track & Field team will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Elle Adrian will compete in the weight throw on the women's side on Friday, while Dillon Morlock will represent the men in the shot put on Saturday.
Gymnastics
No. 11 Michigan State wraps up the regular season Sunday against Brown at Jenison Field House. It's the last tune-up before the Big Ten and NCAA Championships. The Spartans will honor their seniors at the meet.
Men's Tennis
After securing two conference wins at home last weekend, No. 46 Michigan State hits the road for a pair of Big Ten matches. Friday, the Spartans will face Penn State in State College, followed by a Sunday contest at No. 1 Ohio State.
Softball
Michigan State opens conference action this week at No. 7 UCLA. The Spartans and Bruins will play three games with evening contests Friday and Saturday and an afternoon game on Sunday.
Women's Tennis
The Spartans host a pair of Big Ten matches this weekend. Friday, the Spartans will face No. 39 Iowa at 5 p.m. Sunday, MSU plays Nebraska at noon.
Women's Golf
Michigan State opens the Briar's Creek Invitational on Monday, March 16. The tournament will be played at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on John's Island, South Carolina.
