Michigan State Finishes Third at Briars Creek Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan State women's golf team finished in third place among 15 teams at the Briars Creek Invitational, being played at The Golf Club at Briars Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
After an opening round even-par 288, the Spartans shot a 1-under par 287 on Tuesday. The overall finish of 1-under par 575 marked the third under-par finish of the season for the Spartans.
Boston College won the team title with a score of 11-under par 565 (275-290), followed by No. 12-ranked UCF at 8-under par 568 (283-285), the No. 43-ranked Spartans, and No. 45-ranked NC State and Charleston, rounding out the top five, who finished 2-over par 578 for the tournament.
Senior Paula Balanzategui led the Spartans, finishing in sixth place after shooting a 3-under par 141 (70-71). The sixth-place finish marked Balanzategui's second consecutive finish within the top 6 and three of her last four finishes in the top 10.
Classmate Taylor Kehoe finished in 11th place after a 1-under par 143 (72-71) for the tournament. Kehoe posted the best combined scores on hole five out of anyone, with an eagle and a birdie on the 499-yard par-5.
Freshman Memee Pojanalai was the third Spartan to have an under-par round on Tuesday, firing a 1-under par 71. Pojanalai's even-par 144 (73-71) marked her best finish as a Spartan (16th).
Sophomore Grace Vetter placed 50th after carding a 5-over par 149 (73-76).
Senior Shannon Kennedy finished in 70th place after a 9-over par 153 (79-74). Kennedy was bogey-free from holes seven through 18 on Tuesday.
Playing as an individual, junior Ana Sofia Murcia posted a final score of 13-over par 157 (76-81) to finish in 76th place.
The Spartans will next be in action on March 27 when they head to the Clemson Invitational, hosted by Clemson at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
