Spartans Advance Four to Petite Finals In Sarasota 2K

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State advanced four crews into Petite finals in the first day of racing at the Sarasota 2K, held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.  It is the first racing of the season for the Spartans.Â

Michigan State's varsity eight missed out on a spot in Saturday's grand final by three-tenths of a second, clocked in a time of 6:40.75, and Iowa advanced by the slimmest of margins (6:40.54). The Spartans were fourth in the second eight, crossing the line in a time of 7:01.13, behind UCF, Iowa, and UMass.   Both crews will race in Saturday's Petite Final, and No. 14 UCF took victory in the first heat of all three of the NCAA races to put all Knight boats in the Grand Finals.Â

In the varsity four, the Spartans were sixth (8:06.24) and will race in the third-level final on Saturday.Â
MSU's novice eight finished in fourth place, behind No. 15 Dartmouth, No. 18 Miami, and Kansas, turning in a time of 7:13.77.   The Spartans were open water over Kansas State which finished fifth,  The second four was also fourth in its semifinal heat, (8:03.59), with an open-water margin over Albany. Both crews will race in Saturday Petite finals as well as the top two eights.Â
