MSU Women’s Golf in Sixth Place After 18 Holes at Big Ten Championships

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 5-over par 285 in the first round and is in sixth place among 18 teams following the first round of the Big Ten Championships, being played at Oakmont Country Club (par 70, 6,086-yards) in Glendale, Calif.
Southern California leads the field at 3-under par 277, with Illinois and Ohio State tied for second place at 2-over par 282 and Penn State and Purdue tied for fourth place at 4-over par 284. The Spartans are shot out back at 2-over par 285.
Freshman Lucia Valderrama leads the Spartans, carding an even-par 70 to tie for 11th place. Valderrama finished her round tied for fifth in the field with five birdies.
Senior Taylor Kehoe is tied for 16th place at 1-over par 71. Kehoe is tied for fourth in the field with an average score of 3.92 on par-4 holes during the first round.
Freshman Sarisa Pojanalai and sophomore Grace Vetter are tied for 22nd place with scores of 2-over par 72, respectively. Pojanalai is tied for ninth in the field with four birdies.
Senior Paula Balanzategui is tied for 69th place at 8-over par 78.
The Spartans tee off in the second round on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. (ET), playing with Purdue and Penn State.
