EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Two Michigan State baseball players were named Academic All-District, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Ryan McKay and Isaac Sturgess were recognized with 2026 Academic All-District accolades. For McKay, this is his second career CSC Academic All-District honor, while Sturgess earned the first of his career.
McKay, a native of Clarkston, Michigan, posted a 3.627 GPA majoring in finance. On the field, McKay was one of two Spartans to both start and play in all 56 games, but was the lone Spartan to start every game at the same position, making all 56 starts at second base. He posted a .231 average with seven doubles and two home runs, knocking in 26 RBI and swiping six stolen bases, which ranked second on the team. He was also second on the team in walks (26) and tied for second in getting hit-by-pitch (6), along with second on the team with four sacrifice bunts.Â
Sturgess, a Davison, Michigan native, logged a 3.642 GPA as an advertising creative major. On the diamond, Sturgess played in 53 games with 48 starts, making 21 starts in center field, 16 in right field, 10 at designated hitter and one at first base. Sturgess ranked third on the team with a .318 average, while ranking fifth on the team in both slugging percentage (.469) and on-base percentage (.381). He led the team in both hits (61) and runs (42), while ranking third in RBI (55). Sturgess also topped the team and ranked tied for 16th in the B1G in doubles with 15. He also tied for 28th in conference only games with four stolen bases.
The Academic All-District team was selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC); student-athletes needed to be a starter or significant contributor to the team. Nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings. Student-athletes need to be in at least their second year in college while also posting a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for consideration.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.
Michigan State finished the 2026 season with a 24-32 overall record after winning two games at B1G Tournament for the first time since 2016, and the sixth time in MSU's 10 B1G Tournament appearances under Coach Boss. Overall, it was the eighth time winning at least two games in the Spartans' 17 total B1G Tournament appearances.Â
