Bio
Ryan Brehm was hired as an assistant coach on August 10, 2010, returning to the Michigan State men[apos]s golf program where he was a standout from 2004-08.
'I couldn[apos]t be any more excited about Ryan coming back to help lead the Spartan golf program,' said MSU head coach Sam Puryear. 'Not only was Ryan our best player, but he was also the hardest working player and was tremendous in the classroom. That combination will be a great role model for our guys, as they continue their pursuit to be the best and play at the next level.'
Arguably the greatest player in Michigan State golf history, Brehm returns to East Lansing where he was the program[apos]s 13th All-American and remains the school record holder in career stroke average and career wins. In 2008, his senior season, he earned honorable mention All-American honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America, having led the Spartans to their second-straight Big Ten title. His final year stroke average of 72.59 is the fourth lowest in MSU history.
Brehm was a four-time member of the All-Big Ten teams, having been a first-team selection as a sophomore and senior, and a second-team choice as a freshman and junior. In addition, he placed second at the Big Ten Championship three times and was a three-time selection to the Division I PING All-Midwest Region Team. Brehm ended his Michigan State career with five individual titles, including a school-record four as a senior, and a scoring average of 73.30, both program records. He also holds the Spartan records for 18-hole score (64, twice) and 72-hole score (203).
'I would like to welcome Ryan back to the Michigan State athletic department,' said MSU athletic director Mark Hollis. 'I have the highest expectations of both the men[apos]s and women[apos]s golf programs. Ryan[apos]s Michigan roots and tremendous success as a student-athlete, in addition to his current professional experience, will be a great asset to Michigan State golf for a long time.'
A Mt. Pleasant, Mich., native, Brehm is currently playing on the NGA Hooters Tour. Earlier this summer, Brehm won his second consecutive Michigan Open, becoming first player to win back-to-back titles since Scott Hebert won four consecutive from 1999-2002.
