May 3, 2000
East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State cross country standout Leah Nilsson (Sr., Williamston, Mich.) and field hockey player Deborah White (Jr., Harveys Lake, Pa.) have been selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference. This will be the second trip for Nilsson, who represented Michigan State in 1999. The conference will be held May 28-June 1, 2000, at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Spartans were two of 353 student-athletes selected from a total of 885 nominations from around the country by member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. The individuals chosen to participate represent all NCAA divisions, 22 different sports and more than 20 countries.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities. It also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
