Stephanie Anisko Named To Verizon Academic At-Large All-District IV Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University junior diver Stephanie Anisko (Mississauga, Ont.) has been selected to the 2002 Verizon At-Large Academic All-District IV First Team, while junior Amy Silder (Naperville, Ill.), a member of the crew team, has been selected to the All-District IV Second Team. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division 1 schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Anisko, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, carries a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in kinesiology. She competed in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter boards at the Big Ten Championships in each of her first three seasons at MSU. In addition, she qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships this past season. She is a two-time winner of the Spartan Swimming and Diving 100% Award.
Joining Anikso on the District IV team are Nicole Allen (Kentucky/gymnastics), Allison Blanton (Ohio State/field hockey), Sally Cantrell (Auburn/gymnastics), Sarah Dame (Central Michigan/gymnastics), Thrine Kane (Xavier/rifle), Jenny Ketchum (Alabama/tennis), Jessie Lemp (Kentucky/gymnastics), Kacey Montgomery (Tennessee/crew) and Cindy Pasechnik (Louisville/golf). This group will now appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America At-Large Team, which will be announced Thursday, June 13.
Silder, a member of the First Varsity Eight boat, also is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree with a 3.91 GPA in biological engineering. The First Varsity Eight Boat placed third at both the 2001 and 2002 Big Ten Championships. She received the National Rowing Scholar-Athlete Award in 2001. In 1999-2000, Silder was named a Society of Women Engineers Distinguished Freshman and the Robert L. Maddox Outstanding Freshman in Biosystems Engineering.
