Two MSU Student-Athletes Named to Verizon Academic All-District IV Squad

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Two Michigan State student-athletes from the men's track team have been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Spring At-Large team. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated for the team, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve and must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. Members of the team are chosen by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. The team consists of athletes from the spring sports of golf, lacrosse, tennis, indoor/outdoor track and volleyball.
Seniors Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Franklin) and Matt Ingram (Lyons, Mich./Portland) were selected to the All-District IV Second-Team.
Terek was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year and the Big Ten Athlete of the Meet following the 2001 Big Ten Track and Field Outdoor Championships. Terek won the pole vault (17-5 ?) and captured the decathlon in a school and league outdoor championship record (7,695 points). He was named an All-American after finishing eighth at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. In addition, he won the pole vault (18-2 ?) and the heptathlon (5,695 points) at the 2001 Big Ten Indoor Championships. He holds a 3.23 GPA in mechanical engineering.
Ingram is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2000 and 2001). He holds MSU top times in the 200 and 400-meter runs this spring. In addition, he placed fifth in the 400-meter dash at the Notre Dame quad and was second in the high jump at the MSU Invitational. Ingram carries a 3.84 GPA in environmental biology.
