Ganakas Inducted in AHEPA Hall of Fame
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State assistant athletic director and former men's basketball coach Gus Ganakas has been inducted in the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Athletic Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame, the first ethnic sports hall of fame in the U.S., honors the outstanding all-time athletes of Hellenic descent. Ganakas was presented with a plaque last Thursday, Aug. 14, at the National AHEPA Convention's Sports Banquet in Atlanta.
Ganakas was appointed as the 14th head men's basketball coach at Michigan State in 1969 after earning his bachelor's degree from MSU in 1949 and his master's in 1950. In seven years at the helm of the Spartans, Ganakas compiled an 89-84 record.
Ganakas is currently the assistant athletic director in charge of advertising for MSU. He is also the men's basketball commentator for the Spartan flagship radio network.
