Iowa Squeaks by Michigan State
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Michigan State softball team dropped an 8-6 conference decision to Iowa Sunday.
The Spartans scored in each of the first three innings and held a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth inning. The Hawkeyes, however, scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take their third game from the Spartans in as many tries.
Michigan State outhit Iowa 12-11 and benefited from four Hawkeye errors, but couldn't come away with the win.
Stacey Smith went the distance for the Spartans, allowing the eight runs on 11 hits. Her record dropped to 25-9.
Michigan State's offense was led by Stacey Phillips, who finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI. Shortstop Keri Lemasters contributed her third home run for Michigan State.
The Spartans return to action May 2 with a doubleheader against Wisconsin on the road.
