Hearn compiled an impressive .707 winning percentage during his 17 years as a high school head coach, posting a 431-178-2 career record. In 2011 he led Rockford to the Michigan high school state championship and was named the state's coach of the year. He was named the regional coach of the year three consecutive seasons from 2011-2013 and is a seven-time district coach of the year.
During the spring of 2014, Hearn earned his 400th-career victory as a high school coach.
During his 17 years as a high school baseball head coach, Hearn tutored 58 players that went on to play college baseball, four that went on to play professional baseball and four Louisville Slugger High School All-Americans.
Additionally, Hearn served as a scout for the Baltimore Orioles from 2002-05.
Hearn played four seasons at Central Michigan University and was a member of two consecutive NCAA Tournament teams in 1994 and '95. He earned his bachelor's degree from CMU in 1995 and in 2006 he received his master's degree in athletic administration.
