Tara Lierman was named Director of Operations in 2023 after joining the women’s soccer staff in August of 2022 as the team’s Volunteer Assistant Coach. Lierman reunited with her college soccer coach from Grand Valley State University in head coach Jeff Hosler.
Lierman’s first season with the Green & White saw MSU publish a record-shattering 17-3-3 overall mark highlighted by the first regular season Big Ten Championship in school history. Lierman helped lead the program to a 9-0-1 record in B1G play. In the postseason, United Soccer Coaches granted Lierman and the entire MSU women’s soccer staff the presitigous North Region Staff of the Year Award, the first such honor in Michigan State program history.
Lierman’s primary responsibilities with the team center around coordinating road trip logistics and itineraries, including communication efforts with host institutions in order to ensure that the team arrives on time. Her duties also include assisting the program’s Director of Operations and assisting the coaching staff with advance scouting of opponents in addition to practice planning.
Before joining the coaching staff at MSU, Lierman worked as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Alma College, assisting the head coach with game preparation, practice planning, training sessions, recruiting, team management and other duties as assigned. She also served as the head coach of Alma’s junior varsity women’s soccer team. Lierman also spent time as an intern at the University of Michigan, where she served as a strength and conditioning intern for olympic sports in 2019.
The Holt, Michigan, native attended Grand Valley State University, where she earned four varsity letters in women’s soccer under Hosler, as well as a varsity letter for the school’s women’s basketball program. She was elected team captain in the 2018 season and helped lead the Lakers to two NCAA National Runner-Up finishes as well as a national title in 2015. The Lakers were four-time Midwest Regional Champions and took home a quartet of GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships during Lierman’s collegiate career. She was a two-time All-American and took home a pair of All-GLIAC selections at GVSU.
Lierman graduated from Grand Valley State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Science in August of 2019.
