Cody Cox is entering his 10th year on the full-time athletic department staff at Michigan State. After serving as the Assistant Director of Football Operations for two years (2017-18), Executive Director of Football Operations for one year (2019), and Director of Football Operations for two years (2020-21), Cox was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Football Administration in 2022 and became the program’s sport administrator. He was promoted to Associate AD/Chief of Staff in 2024, continuing to serve as one of the sport administrators for the football program while adding responsibilities as Chief of Staff for the athletic department.
As Chief of Staff, Cox serves as the executive liaison between the office of the Athletic Director and various internal and external department stakeholders. He coordinates and manages the essential activities and priorities of Vice President/Director of Athletics J Batt and the department, ensuring all business functions are efficient and productive while managing deadlines, priorities, and commitments. Cox was named Director of Football Operations in February 2020 and coordinated all of the day-to-day operations and scheduling of the football program in 2020-21.
In his previous role as the Director of Executive Football Operations (2019), Cox was charged with organizing and coordinating all day-to-day football-related activities for former Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio and served as the football office’s liaison to the athletic communications staff. Prior to becoming the Director of Executive Football Operations, as the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Camp Coordinator (2017-18), Cox’s responsibilities included: planning, organizing and coordinating the annual football calendar; preseason camp; home and away team travel; training table; player guest tickets; and all team related events and functions. Cox managed the design and creation of the team rules, regulations and philosophies handbook titled “The Winner’s Manual” and was also responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of the Michigan State summer football camps.
Prior to his role as the Assistant Director of Football Operations and Camp Coordinator, Cox worked with the MSU football operations staff as the graduate football operations assistant from 2014-16. Before his GA role, he worked alongside the coaching and video staff as an offensive student assistant coach over the course of 2010-13. Cox earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2014 and his master’s in sports administration from the College of Education in 2016, both from Michigan State.
Cox and his wife, Molly, have three children: Wesley, Charlotte and Vivian.
