Steve Gaul was appointed head football athletic trainer at Michigan State in April 2025.

Gaul previously worked with MSU head football coach Jonathan Smith at Oregon State, where Gaul worked as the head athletic trainer for football beginning in 2017. Gaul started his career at Oregon State in 2012 as an assistant athletic trainer for the football program.

Gaul oversaw the football assistant athletic trainers and students within the athletic training program at OSU and also coordinated physical therapy residents who assisted with practice coverage and daily rehabilitation.

Before arriving at Oregon State, Gaul completed a year-long internship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He previously completed two years as a graduate assistant with Ohio State football while earning a master of science in Allied Health Management. Gaul is also a graduate of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in athletic training and worked a year-long clinical rotation with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
