Tino Smith II is in his first year as a graduate student coach at Michigan State, primarily working with the wide receivers.
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Smith played Division I football at Savannah State University where he started for four years as quarterback and wide receiver, while also serving as the team captain. He majored in mass communications. Additionally, he attended Fork Union Military Academy where he was the captain of the football team and a platoon leader in the barracks.Â
While on staff for five seasons (2018-22) at Albion College, Smith held the roles of Assistant Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Wide Receivers Coach, Coordinator of Student Development & Well-Being, and Director of Community Outreach.Â

During his time on staff at Albion College, he mentored All-American Justin Thomas who became the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. Smith also coached two-MIAA Offensive MVPs (Mark Tocco in 2022 and Justin Thomas in 2021) and six all-conference wide receivers.Â
