Stephen Anthony joined MSU as an associate athletics director on July 5, 2017. Anthony’s primary responsibility at Michigan State University is working in the sport management unit, directly overseeing men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's tennis.
Anthony came to Michigan State after having spent the previous 19 years at Valparaiso University where he most recently served as senior associate athletic director for finance and administration. While at Valparaiso, he was directly involved with the department’s long-range budgeting and capital project planning, while also serving as a sport administrator for numerous sports programs during his tenure at the school.
Anthony began his tenure at Valparaiso as women’s soccer head coach in 1998 and held the position until 2008 before transitioning fully to his role as associate athletic director for business operations.
In addition to Anthony’s blend of administrative and coaching experience, he has served the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship in a variety of administrative roles over the years during his time at Valparaiso.
Anthony began his soccer coaching career in 1990 at DePaul University and made a stop at Northeastern Illinois University before arriving at Valparaiso in 1998. While guiding the women’s program at Valparaiso, he was a three-time Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year. In 2005 he led Valparaiso to the league title and the school’s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Anthony earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce and a master’s degree in management of public services from DePaul, and later master’s degree in sports administration from Valparaiso.
His family includes his wife Jamie and son Tucker.
