East Lansing, MI - MSU quarterback Bill Burke threw for a school-record 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a 34-31 victory over third-ranked Michigan today at Spartan Stadium. The victory improved MSU's record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten.
Sophomore wideout Plaxico Burress hauled in 10 Burke passes for a school record 255 yards and one touchdown to lead the Spartan offensive attack.
Defensively, the Spartans had another great day against the run, allowing just six yards on the ground. It marked the second-straight game that the nation's leading rush defense gave up less than 10 yards on the ground.

SERIES HISTORY: Michigan leads the series, 60-27-5. MSU's win snapped the Wolverines 3-game winning streak against the Spartans (1995).
ATTENDANCE: 76,895 (Largest home crowd since the 1997 Michigan game)

? MSU improves to 6-0 for the first time since 1966.
? Paul Edinger missed a 49-yard field goal in the first quarter, breaking his streak of 10-consecutive field goals.
? Plaxico Burress caught 10 passes for a school record 255 yards, breaking the mark held by Andre Rison (252 vs. Georgia in the 1989 Gator Bowl). Burress' previous best was 150 yards against Purdue last season (Nov. 14).
? Quarterback Bill Burke threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Gari Scott in the third quarter, marking the 10th-straight game in which he has thrown a TD pass.
? Bill Burke became the first Spartan quarterback to throw for 400 yards in a game. The senior QB completed 21-of-36 passes for a career-high 400 yards and two touchdowns. Burke surpassed the mark held by Ed Smith, who threw for 369 yards against Indiana in 1978.
? Wide receiver Gari Scott caught 5 passes moving him into fourth place on the MSU all-time receptions list with 123.
? Anthony Thomas' 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the first rushing touchdown that Michigan State has allowed this season (24 quarters).
? The Spartan defense allowed just six rushing yards today, the second-straight game an MSU opponent has rushed for less than 10 yards. MSU's ?D? has yielded just 13 net rushing yards in the last 2 games. Overall, Notre Dame is the only team to rush for more than 100 yards on MSU this season.
? MSU improved to 5-3 in its last eight games against nationally ranked teams, including a 2-0 mark this season (W-No. 24 Notre Dame).
? Michigan PK Hayden Epstein's 56-yard field goal tied Mike Gillette's (vs. Ohio State, 11/19/88) school record for the longest field goal. It was also the longest field goal ever by a Spartan opponent.
? Michigan senior quarterback Tom Brady completed 30-of-41 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns, the second best yardage game of his career (best 375 at Ohio State, 11/21/98). Brady has thrown at least one TD in 11-straight Big Ten games.
? Wolverine wide receiver Marcus Knight posted his second-straight 100-yard receiving game with 5 catches for 125 yards.
? The 81-yard touchdown pass from Drew Henson to Marcus Knight was the third longest in Michigan history. The record is the 90-yarder from Todd Collins to Derrick Alexander against Illinois on Oct. 23, 1993.
? Junior tailback Anthony Thomas recorded his 27th career rushing touchdown with his 2-yard score early in the fourth quarter.
