ORLANDO, Fla. - Michigan State head football coach Bobby Williams sent his team through a two-hour workout Monday afternoon at the Florida Citrus Bowl Complex as the Spartans resumed preparation for their Jan. 1, 2000, game against No. 10 Florida. With temperatures in the mid-70s, the Spartans practiced in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets.
?We had a good practice,? Williams said. ?After traveling all morning, the team started a little sluggish but the players responded with an enthusiastic workout.
?We worked the top two units against each other to get readjusted to the speed of the game and to work on our timing. We also reviewed all phases of the special teams.?
The Spartans begin two-a-days Tuesday, with practices scheduled for 9:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. on Thunder Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl Complex.
?We?ll practice in full pads tomorrow and we?ll focus on football only for the next three days,? Williams said. ?Our goal is to make a little progress every day as we begin to zone in on our game plan.?
The players welcomed the warm weather as the team charter departed Capital City Airport in Lansing, Mich., at 9:15 a.m. with light drizzle and a temperature of 39.
?It?s great to be in Orlando,? senior cornerback Amp Campbell (Sarasota, Fla.) said. ?This game is billed as the best bowl trip in America and it?s easy to see why. This is a first-class bowl game in every way. The weather is perfect and the hospitality is outstanding.?
