Women's Gymnastics Travel to No. 17 West Virginia Wednesday

NEXT UP: The Spartans travel to West Virginia to face the Mountaineers on March 11. MSU returns home on March 14 to host Ohio State and Western Michigan.
SERIES RECORDS: West Virginia - MSU is 4-4-1 in meets against West Virginia. MSU won the last meeting in 1997. Ohio State - The Spartans are 18-13 all time against the Buckeyes. OSU has won the last two meets. Western Michigan - Michigan State faces the Broncos for the third time this season. MSU is 30-0 against WMU.
GOOD SCORES, FEW WINS - Despite scoring well in their two weekend meets, the Spartans only counted one win against two losses. On March 6 at Michigan, MSU scored 193.975 to Michiganis amazing 197.550, one of the highest scores in the country this season. Erin Mullen set a career high in the floor exercise with 9.900 and the Spartans scored a season-high vault score of 48.875. On March 8, MSU traveled to Towson University to compete against the Tigers as well as Yale. State lost to Towson 192.275-192.000, but defeated Yale which scored only 186.650. Chrissy Weathersby set a career high on the balance beam with a 9.750, while Carolyn Hecht and Kristin Peugeot set season highs on the floor exercise.
21 AND COUNTING - 1998 marks only the second time in school history that MSU has surpassed the 20-win mark. MSUis 21-5 record (and counting) is second only to 1996is 27-3 final record.
NUMBER ONE FORSHIER - Off-season shoulder surgery has limited freshman Elisabeth Forshier to only the vault this season. Forshier has persevered by becoming Stateis best in that event. She has finished first in the vault in each of MSUis last six meets and eight of the nine meets in which she has competed, and hit 9.900 routines in two of her last four tries tying her for fourth-best in school history.
9.900 BACK-TO-BACK - Junior Carolyn Hecht has been one of MSUis most consistent gymnasts all season. Last weekend, she hit back-to-back 9.900 uneven bar routines in the Spartansi two meets. Hecht also competed in the all-around on March 8 for the third time this season, tallying MSUis third-best all-around mark of the year.
THE RANKINGS (see page 4): In the latest rankings, released March 10, MSU was 16th in the country (rankings are by regional qualifying score.). Two Spartans were ranked individually; Elisabeth Forshier was 8th on the vault at 9.844, while Carolyn Hecht was ninth on the uneven bars (9.887) and ninth on the balance beam (9.850).
