Wrestlers Defeated by Ninth-Ranked Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The 20th-ranked Michigan State wrestling squad fell to ninth-ranked Michigan by a score of 22-11 on Friday evening in front of a crowd of 1581 at the Breslin Events Center. With the loss the Spartans drop to 4-7, 1-5 in the Big Ten while the Wolverines improve to 8-3, 3-1 in conference.
149 - #14 Corey Grant (UM) dec. Mike Castillo (MSU), 10-6
Grant scored two first-period takedowns to lead 4-1 after one. With five seconds left in the second, Grant added a takedown to lead 7-2 after two. Castillo would score a reversal in the third but could not score enough to defeat Grant.
157- Cory Posey (MSU) maj. dec. Charles Martelli (UM), 10-2
Posey would strike first with a takedown with only five seconds remaining in the first period. After two his lead stood at 6-2. With an escape, a takedown and riding time advantage, Posey was able to score the major decision.
165 - Jason Rawls (UM) dec. Kevin Spiess (MSU) 12-6
Less than a minute into the match Rawls scored a takedown and near fall. Spiess would then score a takedown to cut the lead to 6-3 after one. In the second and third, Rawls would add a reversal and two takedowns, but could not score the major dec.
174 - #5 Otto Olson (UM) dec. #12 Will Hill (MSU) 5-2
After a scoreless first, Olson would score an escape, a takedown, and a penalty point for Hill stalling to lead 4-0 after two. Hill would score a third-period reversal but could not get the near fall.
184 - #14 Andy Hrovat (UM) dec. Nik Fekete (MSU) 12-10
After one, Hrovat led by a score of 6-2. Fekete would score a second period takedown to cut the lead to 8-6 after two. With a pair of third period takedowns he would tie the score at 10, but with Hrovat holding a two minute advantage in riding time, Fekete was forced to give Hrovat the escape with 20 seconds remaining. Fekete was then unable to score another takedown.
197 - #6 Nick Muzashvili (MSU) maj. dec. Frank Lodeserto (UM) 11-1
Muzashvili would score a takedown in each of the first two periods to lead 4-0 after two. With two more third-period takedowns, Muzashvili scored an 11-1 major decision.
285 - Matt Brink (UM) dec. #17 Matt Lamb (MSU) 4-3, OT
Through two periods, a Brink escape was the only scoring. Less than 10 seconds into the third Lamb evened the score. Both wrestlers were awarded a point for stalling to take the match to OT tied at 2. In OT, stalling was called on both wrestlers. Brink won the ensuing coin flip and selected the down position, where he quickly scored an escape.
125 - #7 Chris Viola (UM) maj. dec. #16 Chris Williams (MSU) 17-4
Two takedowns and a three-point nearfall gave Viola a 7-0 lead after two. Viola was able to increase his lead with a series of takedowns in the third to score the major decision.
133- #3 Pat McNamara (MSU) dec. #6 Joe Warren (UM) 7-2
Warren scored the first takedown, but McNamara would answer to lead 3-2 after one. Warren would ride McNamara for a minute and half to start the second, but McNamara would score a reversal to lead 5-2 after two. A third period takedown iced the match for the sophomore All-American.
141 - #6 Damion Logan (UM) dec. Issac Miller (MSU) 7-3
Miller would score the first takedown, but a pair of escapes and a takedown gave Logan a 4-2 lead after two. Miller scored an escape to start the third, but a Logan takedown gave him the victory.
