Wrestlers Earn First Big Ten Victory

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The 14th-ranked Michigan State wrestling squad defeated Wisconsin 25-11 on Friday night in Madison, Wis. With the victory the Spartans improve to 4-4, 1-2 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers fall to 3-6-1, 0-1 in the conference.
The dual began with the Spartans capturing the first three matches of the evening, including Pat McNamara's (Jordan, Minn.) victory by pinfall at 133 pounds, to take an early 12-0 lead. The two squads would then alternate victories in the next five matches to give the Spartans an 18-11 lead after eight matches. MSU clinched the dual when sixth-ranked Nick Muzashvili (Unadilla, N.Y.) scored a 12-0 major decision over 17th-ranked Ryan LaGrange at 197. Heavyweight Matt Lamb (Pensacola, Fla.) finished the dual with a 4-2 overtime victory.
Michigan State will next travel to Minneapolis where they will take on the second-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers at 3:00 pm on Sunday, Jan. 24.
