EAST LANSING, Mich. - First-team Walter Camp All-American and Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year Flozell Adams was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the NFL Draft Saturday. Adams, a 6-foot-7, 330-pound offensive tackle was the eighth player picked in the second round and the No. 38 selection overall.
"Not being selected in the first round isn't really that big of a deal," Adams said. "A lot of players would like to be in my shoes.
"It's exciting to be selected by the Dallas Cowboys. That's a franchise with a lot of tradition and I think it's a team that's on its way back up. I grew up a Chicago Bears fan but it doesn't matter that I won't be playing for my hometown team.
"I really didn't pay any attention to the player ratings prior to the draft," he said. "Anything can happen on draft day because people make selections based upon specific needs. I have no regrets about staying for my fifth year at Michigan State. I wouldn't trade last season for anything."
Adams graded out better than 80 percent seven times last season, including 37 pancake blocks. He saved his best for his final game in Spartan Stadium, grading out 89 percent overall with a season-high six pancakes vs. Penn State as the Spartans gained 452 yards on the ground, the most ever allowed by the Nittany Lions.
"Dallas got a first-round pick in the second round," Michigan State head coach Nick Saban said.
