COMING UP: The Spartan mens soccer team hosts national powerhouse Indiana this Sunday (Sept. 27) starting at 2:30 p.m. at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
MSU RECAP: The Spartans split a pair of games last week at the Met Life Classic in San Diego. MSU captured a strange 2-1 overtime win against CS Northridge in the first game with MSUs winning tally coming when a Matador player accidentally head the ball past his own keeper. In the squads final contest of the tournament, the Spartans came out on the short end of a 2-0 decision to Cal State Fullerton, the No. 6-ranked team in the Far West Region.
NOTES Indiana, ranked No. 4 nationally in this weeks NSCAA Poll, takes a 6-1 overall mark into a Sept. 25 home match against Louisville. Michigan State is ranked No. 7 in this week's Great Lakes Region Poll. Senior James Whitmore (Ann Arbor) scored MSU's other goal in the win against CS Northridge, his sixth career goal as a Spartan since joining the program in 1996. Last weekend's meeting against CS Northridge and CS Fullerton were the first-ever soccer battles between MSU and those schools.
