COMING UP: The Spartan men's soccer team travels to Maryland (11-6) on Saturday to close out their regular season. They will take part in the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Illinois beginning Nov. 13.
SPARTANS SPLIT: MSU spilt a pair of games last week, defeating Western Michigan, 5-0, on Wednesday and falling to Wisconsin 2-0 on Sunday. The Spartans had goals by freshman midfielder Steve Arce (Windsor, Ontario), senior forward Chris Slosar (Grand Blanc), sophomore midfielder Pat Mahoney (Shelby Township), freshman midfielder J.W. Simpson (Brookfield, Wisconsin), and sophomore midfielder Rick Smith (Tecumseh) to down WMU.
NOTES: Simpson's goal against WMU was the first of his career as a Spartan...Maryland is currently ranked 16th in the NSCAA poll and 20th in the Soccer America poll...the Terrapins upset then No. 1 Duke, 3-2, in overtime on Sept. 27...Slosar currently leads the team with six goals and two assists for 14 total points, while Smith is second with five goals for 10 assists.
