COMING UP: The Spartan men's soccer team travels to San Diego for the Met-Life Tournament where they will take on Cal State-Northridge on September 18 at 5:00 p.m. and Cal State-Fullerton on September 20 at 1:00 p.m.
SMITH CONTINUES HIS TERROR: Sophomore midfielder Rick Smith, after being named Big Ten Player of the Week on September 7, scored two more goals to increase his team leading total to four. Smith nailed home the game winning goal in the Spartans' 1-0 overtime victory over Eastern Michigan on September 9. He, and senior midfielder Jeff Fliss each chipped in goals in MSU's 2-1 win over Cincinnati.
NOTES: Smith's four goals in five games have already surpassed his total from last year, when he scored two goals in 18 gamesfreshman forward Brett Konley earned his first career assist against Eastern Michigan on Smith's game winning goalWith the September 9 win, the Spartans' increased their series record with Eastern Michigan to 20-1-2, including an 11-0 mark at homesenior James Whitmore continued his streak of 25 consecutive games started dating back to last seasonMSU will meet Cal State-Northridge and Cal State-Fullerton for the first time in school history September 18-20 in San Diego.
