Women's Track to Host Meet on Saturday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track and field team will host its only home meet of the indoor season this week when Central Michigan and Toledo invade Jenison Field House on Feb. 6. Central comes to East Lansing on the heels of a second-place finish at the Michigan Intercollegiates last weekend, while Toledo opened their season last week at the Golden Flash Invitational at Kent University.
INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP: MSU finished fifth at the Michigan Intercollegiates in Ann Arbor last weekend, earning 27 team points. Junior Jen Denkins (Flushing, Mich.) won the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 17:32.29, a full 30 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Michigan State also added four other top-five finishes.
STRETCHING HER LEGS: Junior Leah Nilsson (Williamston, Mich.), expected to be one of MSU's top distance runners in 1999, made her season debut in Ann Arbor. She took third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:10.83.
MORE ON DENKINS: Denkins has been the most consistent Spartan runner thus far in '99, finishing no lower than fourth in four races this season. She was the top finisher for Michigan State in three of those four races.
