PRINCETON, N.J. - Mark Findling, a Michigan State senior, has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete. He is one of 47 collegiate tennis players from around the country, and one of only three Big Ten students, to meet the necessary criteria.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status at the NCAA Division I level a player must meet be a junior or senior, a varsity letterwinner and have a grade point average of at least 3.50.
"Mark worked his way up from being a walk-on to earning a position in the starting lineup," said Michigan State head coach Gene Orlando. "He works hard both on and off the court and it's nice that he can be recognized for that."
Findling worked his way into the starting lineup last year as a junior. He teamed with three different partners at No. 3 doubles for a 3-7 record. Findling and Trey Eubanks paired for several key wins in the 1999 Big Ten Tournament. He also competed in singles in tournament play, finishing with a 1-5 record.
