EAST LANSING, Mich. - Munn Ice Arena has a new look starting tonight thanks to the addition of luxury suites, club seating and a new press box. One of the nation?s finest college hockey facilities welcomes the millenium with a truly state-of-the-art design.
?Our fans are going to notice a huge difference,? head coach Ron Mason said of the project, which boosts Munn?s capacity to 6,470. ?We have always done a good job of keeping Munn looking like new. This is the biggest step that has been made in that direction since the building opened.?
Among the improvements on the concourse level is the expansion and renovation of the women?s restrooms.
The luxury suites above the north concourse include 14 self-contained boxes: eight with 12 seats each and six with eight seats each. That level contains restrooms and food service capabilities. Each suite is fully furnished, has a television and telephone and a kitchen area.
The club seating area, which runs for two-thirds of the area above the south concourse, contains 150 chair-back seats with cup holders. Television monitors are interspersed throughout the area, with an ample gathering area located behind the seats. A buffet will be served at the back of the suite.
"One of the nicest things that we were able to do was to offer fans the option of luxury suites or club seating," Associate Athletics Director Greg Ianni said. "Another aspect which I am really pleased with is how we were able to make this renovation but really make it look like part of the existing facility."
?The new areas are just beautiful,? Mason said. ?The sighlines are the best I have ever seen because the fans will be right on top of the action. This project will generate more revenue and also get more fans in the building, which should help make for a better game-day atmosphere.?
The new luxury suites, club seating and press box have separate entrances on the north and south sides of Munn Ice Arena, each with elevator access. The architect for the project was Rossetti and Associates of Birmingham, Mich., and the construction management company was Clark Construction of Lansing.
