EAST LANSING, Mich. -
ATTENDANCE - 111,514 (sellout). Today's sellout marks the 53rd consecutive sellout in the Michigan State-Michigan series, dating back to 1948. It is also the largest crowd ever to witness an MSU-U-M contest and the largest crowd in front of which the Spartans have ever played.
SERIES - Michigan holds a 61-27-5 edge over the Spartans following today's 14-0 win. U-M has a 45-17-3 advantage in games played in Ann Arbor.
With the win, Michigan regained the Paul Bunyan Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the MSU-U-M game. The Wolverines lead the all-time series 28-18-2 since 1953, which was the first year that the trophy was awarded.
SLOW STARTS CONTINUE FOR SPARTAN OFFENSE - For the first time all season, Michigan State's offense failed to score in the first half. On the season, MSU has been outscored, 74-52, in the first half and, 48-27, in the first quarter.
IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME - The Spartans have now gone seven quarters without a score dating back to the Oct. 14 Wisconsin game. The last score for MSU was a 43-yard pass from Ryan Van Dyke to Herb Haygood with 11 seconds left in the 1st quarter of that game.
IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME II - Today marked the first time the Spartans have been shutout since Dec. 31, 1996 when Stanford shutout MSU 38-0 in the Sun Bowl, a span of 42 games.
SLOW START TO SEASON - With the loss to Michigan, MSU begins the Big Ten Conference season with a 0-4 mark. It is just the third time in school history that MSU has started 0-4.
CAREER DAY - Junior quarterback Ryan Van Dyke had a career-passing day against the Wolverines. Van Dyke passed for a career-high 292 yards on 26-of-37 throws. Van Dyke's previous best effort was 180 yards against Iowa on Oct. 7.
MOVING CLOSER - Sophomore tailback T.J. Duckett continues to inch closer to the 1,000-yard milestone. With 70 rushing yards vs. Michigan, Duckett needs just 40 more yards to reach the 1,000-yard milestone. Duckett heads into next week with 960 rushing yards on the season.
HOLD ONTO THAT BALL - For the third consecutive week, the Spartans have held an edge in total possession time. MSU had a 33:58 to 26:02 advantage on the clock.
In addition, MSU outgained the Wolverines in total net yards, 355-to-326 and held an 81-to-66 advantage in total offensive plays and a 22-to-19 edge in first downs. The big difference for the Spartans was net yards rushing where Michigan outgained MSU, 188-to-63. This is the third-straight week in which Michigan State has outgained its opponent but lost the game.
RICHARDSON ON THE RISE - Senior wide receiver Lavaile Richardson posted his second straight career game. After tying his career-high with 62 receiving yards vs. Wisconsin last week, Richardson followed up with a career-high seven catches for a career-high 78 yards at Michigan.
