Wisconsin Beats Men's Tennis 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After picking up its first doubles point of the Big Ten season, Michigan State could not hold on for the victory, as Wisconsin defeated MSU 5-2 Saturday, April 15, on the MSU Outdoor Courts. Michigan State fell to 6-17/1-6 for the season, while the Badgers improved to 8-9/3--4.
Michigan State's seniors were recognized before the match, and they came out ready for action. The Spartans opened the contest by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Four seniors comprised the two teams, as Mark Findling (Livonia, Mich.) and Ken Kigongo (Bradenton, Fla.) won 9-8 (8), and Ivica Primorac (Mosthar, Bosnia) and Francisco Trinidad (Mexico City, Mexico) were victorious 8-6.
Michigan State could not keep the momentum going in singles play, as Wisconsin took five of the six matches to win overall, 5-2. Trinidad was the lone Spartan to win his match, defeating Stefan Reist at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-0. Primorac, Robert Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) and Goran Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) took their matches into the third set before losing.
Michigan State will conclude its home portion of the schedule tomorrow, as the Spartans host Iowa. MSU will battle against the Hawkeyes on the MSU Outdoor Courts located on Wilson and Chestnut Roads behind the Duffy Daugherty Football Building at 1:00 p.m.
