Central Michigan Takes Two From MSU Baseball

Lansing, Mich. - Central Michigan University's baseball improved its record to 30-11 on the season after taking two games from MSU on Wednesday night at Olds Park. The Chippewas cruised to a 14-4 victory over the Spartans in game one and then followed game one's performance with a 10-3 encore in game two. The losses dropped MSU's record to 14-28 on the season.
In the first game, CMU exploded for nine runs off seven hits in the first inning, with eight of the runs coming before an out was recorded. Following CMU's half of the first, the Spartans, for the most part, held the Chippewas in check for the remainder of the game as they allowed just five more runs to cross the plate. Offensively the Spartans did not get on the board until the sixth inning when Ted Demetral (Sr., Sterling Heights, Mich.), Mike Pisani (Sr., Rochester, Mich.) and Brady Burrill (Fr., Newhall, Calif.) all came around to score for MSU. The Spartans would add an additional run in seventh inning as Joe Albaugh (Sr., Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) came around to score after opening the inning off with a double into left-center.
In the second game, the Spartans came back to from a 2-0 deficit in to take a 3-2 lead after five innings following a three-run fifth inning. Igniting MSU in the fifth was none other then senior's Pisani and Gary Zsigo (Lennon, Mich.). Pisani drove home Charlie Braun (Fr., Grosse Pointe, Mich.) with his single into rightfield, while Zsigo was credited for two RBI following his two-out single into centerfield which scored Pisani and Matt Haynes (So., Midland, Mich.). The Spartans lead, however, would be short-lived as CMU plated eight runs in the sixth inning off the strength of six hits, including a three-run homer by first baseman Mike Gates.
Michigan State's next game is Friday, April 28, at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing, Mich. The Spartans will face Big Ten leader Minnesota at 7:00 p.m.
