Hoosiers Defeat Men's Tennis

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After picking up its first conference win of the season yesterday, the Michigan State men's tennis team fell to Indiana 7-0 on Sunday, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The loss dropped the Spartans' record to 6-16/1-5. MSU was looking pick record its second consecutive victory for only the second time this season.
Indiana jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage by winning all three doubles contests to start the match. Freshmen Jimmy McGuire (Columbus, Ohio) and Goran Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) lost a close match at No. 2 doubles taking Milan Rakvica and George McGill into a tie-breaker before losing 9-8 (6).
The Hoosiers also had their way in singles play, sweeping all six contests to win by the final score of 7-0. Francisco Trinidad (Mexico City, Mexico) was the only Spartan able to take his match into the third set. The senior eventually lost 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to George McGill at No. 4 singles.
Michigan State will conclude its home portion of the schedule next weekend as the Spartans host Wisconsin and Iowa. MSU will battle agaisnt the Badgers on Saturday, April 15, and the Hawkeyes on Sunday, April 16. Both contests are scheduled to be played on the MSU Outdoor Courts located on Wilson and Chestnut Roads behind the Duffy Daugherty Football Building at 1:00 p.m.
