In addition, MSU placed in the top five in six other events (Mary Fossum/4th, Lady Northern/T-5th, Big Ten/Big 12 Shootout/3rd, Central District Classic/5th, Lady Buckeye/2nd and the NCAA West Regional/3rd). All told, 10 of the 13 tournaments MSU participated in resulted in a top-five finish.
The Spartans also recorded their best-ever finish at the 2001 NCAA Championships, placing 12th in the 24-team field. The 12th-place showing surpassed the previous best of 16th, established by the 1984 squad. At the 2001 Championships, MSU carded a four-day total of 58-over 1210 (310-300-304-296) including the second-lowest score (296) on the final day.
Individually, Emily Bastel was 38th in the final MasterCard Collegiate Ranking, while Kasey Gant was 47th and Stacy Snider was 56th. In the GolfWeek final individual rankings, Bastel was 36th, followed by Snider at 55th and Gant at 63rd.
