BIG TEN TOURNAMENT INFO
Michigan State (5-1 Big Ten) is the second-seeded team in the tournament, behind top-seed Michigan (6-0). Penn State (4-2) earned the third spot, while Ohio State (2-4) and Iowa (2-4) took fourth and fifth, respectively. Northwestern and Indiana each finished with a 1-5 slate, but due to tie-breaker rules, Northwestern claimed the sixth seed and Indiana took seventh.

SPARTAN HISTORY IN THE TOURNAMENT
Michigan State has not had such good luck in the Big Ten Tournament, going just 1-7 since 1994, earning its only victory in 1997 against Iowa. The Hawkeyes have been a tournament tormenter for the Spartans, defeating MSU on four occasions, including the past two seasons.
MSU TOPS OHIO STATE
Michigan State concluded the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 2. Michelle Carstens put the Spartans on the board in the 11th minute and Alexandra Kyser and Annebet Beerman added two goals more goals in the first half. Michelle Huynh-Ba and Cynthia Martin finished up the Spartans' scoring with two second-half goals.
MAKING HISTORY
Michigan State recorded its 18th win of the season against Ohio State on Nov. 2, setting a new program record for victories in a season. The Spartans bested the 1979 squad that won 17 games in one season, going 17-8-2.
KIRKALDY LEADS THE NATION
MSU goaltender Christina Kirkaldy remains atop the national rankings. The first-year netminder leads the country in goals against average, posting a 0.677 average, allowing just 12 goals in nearly 1250 minutes of action. Her GAA is nearly .100 better than the second-place goaltender. Kirkaldy also tops the nation in saves percentage, posting a 0.862 mark.
LEADING THE WAY
As a team, Michigan State leads the nation in winning percentage. Racking up 18 wins and just two losses, the Spartans post a winning percentage of 0.900. The Spartans' 18 wins are tied with Old Dominion as the most victories by any team ranked in the Top 20 as well. MSU also tops the country in scoring defense (0.74) and is second in margin of victory (3.03).
TOPPING THE CHARTS
Michigan State continues to remain among the nation's elite in several categories. Judith van Haeringen and Jenny Sanders are both ranked seventh in the nation for assists, helping on 14 goals apiece this year. Julia Adams and her 12 assists are ranked 11th in the country. van Haeringen and Sanders are tied for eighth for assists per game, with 0.700. Annebet Beerman is ranked 12th in the nation for points, registering 36. Beerman's 1.895 average places her 17th.
HOME SWEET HOME
Michigan State's victory over Kent State on Oct. 23 wrapped up a perfect home slate this season. The Spartans went 10-0 this season. It is the fourth time in program history that the Spartans have defended their home turf, the last being 22 years ago. In 1980, Michigan State went 7-0. Prior to that season, the Spartans swept through the home schedules of 1974 (2-0) and1975 (5-0).
REACHING A MILESTONE
MSU head coach Michele Madison recorded her 100th victory on the Spartan sideline on Sunday, Oct. 20, as the Spartans shutout Ball State, 3-0. With the win, Madison improved her record to 100-98-2 in 10 years as the Spartans' head coach. She has added to that mark with three more tallies in the 'W' column to post a 103-98-2 mark.
AND ANOTHER...
Spartan mentor Michele Madison collected her 150th career coaching victory on Saturday, Oct. 12, as the Spartans defeated Indiana, 5-1, in Big Ten action. In 14 seasons on the sidelines of both Temple (1989-1992) and Michigan State (1993-present), Madison has now tallied a 154-125-8 record.
FANTASTIC FROSH
Freshman Michelle Huynh-Ba has scored for the Spartans in the last five consecutive contests. She has tallied a marker in six of the last seven games and earned at least a point in seven of the last eight. On the season, Huynh-Ba has registered 12 goals and two assists for a Big Ten freshman-best 24 points.
PUSH...STOP...SCORE!
The Spartans have scored eleven goals from a penalty corner this season, tallying two in a game on two different occasions. Jenny Sanders has been a mainstay in the stopper position, assisting on the last ten goals from the penalty corner. Julia Adams and Cynthia Martin are the standard pushers, with Adams at the baseline for nine scores this season and Martin for two. Annebet Beerman and Judith van Haeringen have been the final step of the three-part process, scoring for the Spartans in each successful conversion. van Haeringen has pocketed six goals, while Beerman has registered the remaining five.
BLASTING BEERMAN
Sophomore Annebet Beerman has scored 15 goals this season, vaulting herself into ninth place on the single season goals list. Beerman has registered multiple goals against Old Dominion, Pacific and Syracuse. The Maarssen, Netherlands native was the lone goal-scorer in three games and has pushed in seven-game winning tallies for the Green and White. She has also accounted for six assists on the year to bring her point total to a team-leading 36 points, good enough for sixth-place on the program's single season points list.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT 101
Michigan State has led the Big Ten Conference in every offensive category this season and the final week of regular competition was no different. The Spartans lead the league in points (211 - second-place: 180), goals (76 - second-place: 65), goals per game (3.80 - second-place: 3.42), assists (59 - second-place: 50), assists per game (2.95 - second-place 2.63), shots (391 - second-place: 356) and penalty corners (228 - second-place: 175). MSU is also tops in goals allowed, allowing just 15 goals in 20 games for a 0.75 goals per game average.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT 201
Michigan State also continues to lead the conference in Big Ten-only games, leading every offensive category. The Spartans lead the league in points (49), goals (17), goals per game (2.83), assists (15), assists per game (2.50) and penalty corners (78). The Spartans are second in the Big Ten in goals allowed (4), goals allowed per game (0.33) and shutouts (2).
SHOOTOUT
The Spartans have outscored their opposition 76-15 over the season, averaging three more goals a game than the competition.
HELPING HANDS
Senior Julia Adams has accounted for 12 helpers this season to remain in second-place on the program's all-time assist list with 29. Her 12 assists move her into a tie for fifth on the program's single-season assist list. Adams is just five assists away from the program's career record of 34, which was set by Rayna Hiscox in 1994-97.
HELPING HANDS 2
Jenny Sanders tallied one assist against Ohio State to bring her career total to 27 and moving into third-place on the all-time list and now just two helpers away from a second-place tie with Julia Adams. With 14 helpers in 20 games this season, Sanders has moved into a tie for the top spot on the single season assist list with former Spartan Marleen Tuip (1998), Rayna Hiscox (1996) and current teammate Judith van Haeringen (2002).
HELPING HANDS 3
When Judith van Haeringen assisted on Michigan State's second goal against Northwestern on Oct. 26, she moved into a tie for the most assists ever earned in a single season by a Spartan. van Haeringen has registered 14 helpers this season, tying her with Marleen Tuip (1998), Rayna Hiscox (1996) and Jenny Sanders. Only a sophomore, van Haeringen has already vaulted herself into sixth-place on the program's all-time assists list with 22.
BREAKING IT DOWN
Michigan State has registered 38 goals in each period this season for a program-best 76 goals.
BY THE NUMBERS
MSU has outshot the opponents 391-174 this season, attempting 187 shots in the first have and 203 in the second. Michigan State has had to make just 90 saves on the season, while the opposition has needed to stop 174.
BIG TEN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Michigan State produced three Big Ten Players of the Week on four different occasions this season. It is the second most Spartans ever to earn POW honors in a single season. Annebet Beerman opened the season with an offensive award on Sept. 2, before Christina Kirkaldy produced back-to-back defensive player honors on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30. Michelle Carstens rounded out the trio with offensive honors on Oct. 14. Only last seasons' squad, which produced four different Player of the Week athletes on five different occasions.
POW POINTS
Michigan State's four Big Ten Player of the Week honors were the second most of any team in the league schools. Only Michigan's nine honors exceeded the Spartans' numbers. In fact, athletes from the state of Michigan accounted for 13 of the 21 honors handed out this season.
SENIOR DAY EXTRAVAGANZA
The Senior Day celebration saw a little from each class of Spartans. MSU got on the board with a goal from a freshman (Michelle Huynh-Ba), a junior (Alexandra Kyser) and a senior (Jenny Sanders), while a pair of sophomores (Judith van Haeringen and Annebet Beerman) added the assists.
