Bio
In her first season as MSU[apos]s student coach is former Spartan standout defender Michelle Carstens.
A four-year letterwinner (2001-04), the Edwardsville, Ill., native was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Team. She was a member of the Spartan squads that captured four-straight Big Ten titles and reached the NCAA Final Four in 2002 and 2004.
She closed her four-year career, appearing in 81 games with 19 goals and three assists for 41 points. As a senior in 2004, she started all 22 games, recording two goals and three assists for seven points. As a sophomore in 2002, she finished tied for second on the squad with 14 goals.
Carstens, whose career ambition is to be a field hockey coach, is completing her bachelor[apos]s degree in kinesiology.
