Women's Soccer Shuts Out Minnesota, 1-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team remained undefeated in Big Ten play after defeating Minnesota, 1-0, Friday (Sept. 27). The Spartans improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten Conference play, while the Gophers fell to 5-4 and 0-3 in the conference.
A tough Spartan defense allowed just six total shots and goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Jr., Madison, Wis.) had to make just one save en route to recording her fifth shutout of the season. Through eight games in 2002, the Spartans have allowed just one goal.
The teams played a scoreless first half, but the Spartans held a 7-4 advantage in shots. In the second half, the Spartans continued to pressure the Gophers and broke the tie when Tiffany Laskowski (Jr., Troy) scored her fifth goal of the season at the 71:11 mark. Trisha Kenny (Jr., Saginaw) and Nina Mastracci (Fr., Troy) each drew assists on the goal.
MSU outshot Minnesota by a count of 16-6 for the game.
The Spartans return to action Sunday (Sept. 29) when they travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 1:00 p.m. ET.
