Women's Soccer Drops First Big Ten Contest

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team lost to Wisconsin, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in Madison. The loss is the first Big Ten defeat for the Spartans who fall to 7-2, 3-1 in conference. Wisconsin improves to 4-5-2, 1-2-1 in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin took control of the game midway through the first half, with two goals in a six minute span. Jessica Ring scored the first goal at 20:48, and Jenny Kundert added a goal at 26:47. After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Badgers increased their lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute on Kundert's second goal of the afternoon.
Trailing 3-0, Michigan State quickly answered, with its own goal in the 51st minute as Erin Konheim (Fr., West Bloomfield) scored on an assist from Heidi Lutz (Sr., San Ramon, Calif.). The Spartans, however, could not get any closer in the final 39 minutes.
Michigan State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 4, when it hosts Ohio State at 4 p.m. at Old College Field. On Sunday, the Spartans play host to Penn State in a 1 p.m. contest.
