EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Kelvin Torbert scored 17 points off the bench to help Michigan State snap a three-game losing streak and beat South Florida 73-60 Tuesday night.
With new starters Tim Bograkos and Jason Andreas providing much-needed energy, the Spartans (4-4) scored 18 of the first 22 points and 18 of the last 19 in a 42-19 first half.
South Florida (3-4) answered with a 15-1 run to start the second half and slashed the lead to nine. But Torbert scored Michigan State's next three baskets as his team built a 33-8 edge in bench points.
Chris Hill had 14 points, 11 in the first half, for the unranked Spartans. The team was No. 3 in the nation three weeks ago before losses to Kansas, Duke, Oklahoma and Kentucky.
Paul Davis added 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds but saw his consecutive free-throw string end at 22. Alan Anderson had ten points off the bench and stretched his free-throw string to 26.
Terrence Leather had 25 points and Bradley Mosley added 23 for the Bulls, who dropped their fourth-straight game.
