Softball Drops A Pair In Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Michigan State softball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to St. John's and Cleveland State on the opening day of play at the Winthrop Ringor Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday, March 14. With the losses, the Spartans move to 15-6 on the season.
In the Spartans' 3-0 loss to St. John's, the Red Storm put the deciding runs on the board in the fourth inning. Senior Margaret Schick (Grass Lake, Mich.) had two of the Spartans four hits, while Jessica Beech (Okemos, Mich.) took the game on the mound, striking out five would-be hitters.
Michigan State concluded the day with another 3-0 loss, this time to the Vikings of Cleveland State. CSU put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and added the final run in the fourth. Freshman Elizabeth Peterson (Riverside, Calif.) posted half of the Spartans hits, with two. Katie Joosten (Anaheim, Calif.) suffered her first loss of the season in the game, pitching five innings, striking out four.
The Spartans continue play at the Winthrop Ringor Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. They will face East Tennessee State at 10 a.m., before facing Hartford at 4 p.m.
