BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky completed a three-game sweep by defeating the Michigan State baseball team, 5-0, Sunday afternoon (March 16) at Nick Denes Field on the WKU campus. MSU is now 3-10 for the season, while the Hilltoppers improve to 10-6.
Western Kentucky scored the game's first run in the third on a sacrifice fly. The Hilltoppers knocked MSU starter Pat Gill (Sr., Grandville) out of the game in the sixth as they added four runs on four hits to make the score 5-0 after six. Gill threw 5.1 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits while tying a career-high with six strikeouts.
The Spartan offensive only had five hits in the contest but still managed to leave 10 runners on base. Jim Deliz (So., Clinton Twp.) collected two hits for MSU, while Brady Burrill (Sr., Valenica, Calif.) extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Michigan State returns to action for a four-game series at Ohio next weekend in Athens, Ohio.
