Spartan Baseball Stumbles At Ohio, 4-2

ATHENS, OHIO - Despite pounding out 12 hits and getting a complete-game eight-hitter by Michigan State starting pitcher Bryan Gale (Jr., Decatur), the Spartan baseball team couldn't find a way to get past Ohio, Friday (Mar. 21) afternoon, as the Bobcats downed MSU, 4-2. The Spartans left 10 runners on base in the game and are now 3-11 on the season while Ohio improves to 9-5.
With the game tied at two in the eighth, two costly Spartan errors gave way to two runs for the Bobcats as they took the lead for good, 4-2.
Ohio grabbed their first lead of the game in the fourth as Adam Fox hit a solo home run to center field, followed by a RBI-single in the in the fifth by Jason Shockey which gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. The Spartans responded in the sixth, however, tying the game at two. Charlie Braun (Sr., Grosse Pointe) led off the inning with a double down the right field line and later scored as Travis Gulick (So., East Lansing) drove him in with a single. Gulick tied the game two batters later.
Gale struck out six, one shy of his season high and suffered the loss for the Spartans, dropping his record to 2-3 while the Bobcats' Anthony Gressick picked up the win in a relief effort to even his record at 1-1.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at Noon.
