ATHENS, Ohio - The Michigan State baseball team fell 4-2 to the Ohio Bobcats Sunday (Mar. 23) afternoon in Athens, Ohio., as the Bobcats took three of four games from the Spartans on the weekend. While the Spartans out hit the Bobcats, they left 10 runners on base in the game and are now 4-13 on the season while Ohio improves to 11-6.
With the Bobcats leading 2-0 in the fifth inning, Alan Cattrysse (Fr., Chatham, Ont.) singled to left field and later scored when Brett Wattles (Sr., Rochester) drove him in with his third home run of the season to tie the game at two.
Ohio responded in the bottom of the fifth frame when Adam Fox knocked a RBI-single up the middle and again in the sixth when Ben Crabtree hit a solo home run, making the score, 4-2.
MSU threatened in the seventh, putting two runners on base but could not find a way to get them home.
Jeff Gerbe (Fr., Shelby Twp.) (0-1) started on the mound for the Spartans, giving up eight hits while striking out two in 5.1 innings of work. Adam Russell (2-1) picked up the win for Ohio.
MSU returns to action Tuesday (Mar. 25) when they travel to Bowling Green for a 2 p.m. game.
