Spartan Baseball Wins Series Finale At Indiana, 8-5

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State scored a season high eight runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Indiana, 8-5, Sunday afternoon (April 13) at Sembower Field on the IU campus. MSU improves to 9-20 (3-7 Big Ten) for the season, while the Hoosiers fall to 22-9 (7-5). With the win, MSU split the four-game series against the second-place Hoosiers.
The Spartans scored all eight of their runs in the seventh on eight hits. MSU had six consecutive hits in the inning, capped by bases-clearing double off the bat of Brady Burrill (Sr., Newhall, Calif.).
MSU collected 10 hits in the game and Scott Koerber (Jr., Harper Woods) and Charlie Braun (Sr., Grosse Pointe) each registered two.
Freshman starter Jeff Gerbe (Fr., Shelby Twp.) pitched the best outing of his young career, earning his first collegiate win after tossing 7 1/3 innings while scattering 10 hits. Ryan Golem (Sr., Dearborn) threw 1 2/3 innings to earn the save for the Spartans.
MSU returns to action with a single game against Wayne State at Kobs Field on Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 3 p.m.
