MSU Game Notes
· Today's attendance was 72,383. It was the 37th consecutive sellout in Spartan Stadium.
· Michigan State now leads the all-time series 25-14, and holds a 14-5 advantage in games played in East Lansing. Michigan State won last year's meeting and has won 19 of the last 22 meetings.
· The 34-point margin of victory is the largest for either team in the series.
· Michigan State's all-time record in homecoming games is now 58-28-3, including a 4-4 record vs. Minnesota. The Gophers spoiled MSU's homecoming in 2002 with a 28-7 victory.
· Michigan State is now 16-15 in its last 31 games against teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, including a 10-3 record in games played at Spartan Stadium. This was Michigan State's first game this season against a Top 25 team and first victory over a ranked team since last season's victory over Minnesota.
· Michigan State scored a season-high 44 points, surpassing last week's total of 38 points vs. Illinois. It is the most points scored by MSU since a 56-21 victory over Indiana in 2002.
· Michigan State had 636 yards of total offense, which are the most by the Spartans since MSU had 639 yards vs. Missouri in 2001.
· Michigan State rushed for 324 yards, which was the fourth straight game and fifth in the last six games that the Spartans surpassed 200 yards rushing. It marks the first time MSU had four consecutive 200-yard rushing games in the same season since having five straight in 1996.
· With 308 yards passing and 102 yards rushing, Drew Stanton became the first quarterback in MSU history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in a game. It was his first 300-yard passing game and second 100-yard rushing game (134 vs. Indiana).
· Stanton's total of 410 yards total offense (308 passing, 102 rushing) broke the Michigan State single-game record of 393 set by Jeff Smoker in the 2001 Silcon Valley Football Classic vs. Fresno State.
· With 15 points today (three field goals, six extra points), Dave Rayner moved into second place on MSU's career scoring list with 286 points. John Langeloh holds the school record with 308 career points.
· Dave Rayner moved up two spots into second place on MSU's career extra points chart with six extra points. His total of 130 is seven shy of John Langeloh's school record of 137.
· Jehuu Caulcrick finished with a career-high 94 yards rushing on only 13 carries. His previous career high was 85 yards on two occasions.
· Michigan State scored on its first drive of the game on an 18-yard touchdown run by Jehuu Caulcrick. It was the first time MSU has scored on its opening possession this season.
· Caulcrick's 18-yard touchdown run was the longest rush of his career. His previous long was 14 yards. He surpassed that with a 37-yard gain early in the third quarter.
· Eric Knott's 25-yard touchdown reception from Drew Stanton was his second of the season and eighth of his career.
· Jason Teague's 43-yard touchdown run with 2:29 left in the first quarter was his third rushing touchdown of the season and fourth overall. It was his second-longest run of the season (46 yards vs. Rutgers) and third-longest of his career.
· Michigan State's 21 first-quarter points were the most in the opening period by the Spartans this season, surpassing the 13 they scored in the first quarter last week vs. Illinois.
· Eric Knott's second touchdown of the game, a 36-yard pass from Stanton, gave him his first two-touchdown game since the 2002 season opener against Eastern Michigan, which was his first career game at tight end.
· Michigan State's 31 first-half points were the most by MSU in the first half this season, surpassing the 23 points scored in the opening half last week vs. Illinois.
· Each of Drew Stanton's first six carries resulted in first downs, as he totaled 75 yards on those six rushes.
· Dave Rayner's 22-yard field goal on the final play of the first half marked the second straight season Rayner booted a field goal on the final play of the first half vs. Minnesota. Last season, Rayner's 50-yard field goal gave MSU a 34-17 halftime edge.
· Michigan State amassed 407 yards of total offense in the first half, which is a school record and the first time MSU surpasses 400 yards of offense in a half since accumulating 402 first-half yards vs. Missouri in 2001.
· Jehuu Caulcrick's 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave him the first two-touchdown game of his career.
· Tyrell Dortch had an interception in the third quarter. It was his second interception of the season and third of his career.
· Terry Love had a 56-yard touchdown reception with 6:56 remaining, which was his first career touchdown reception.
· Ashton Watson's interception in the fourth quarter was his first this season and the second of his career.
· Michigan State improved to 3-1 in the Big Ten (4-3 overall) after racing to a 4-0 conference start last season. It marks the first time MSU has started the Big Ten season with three or more wins in its first four games since the 1965 and 1966 teams both went 7-0 en route to national championships.
