EAST LANSING, Mich. - John Musachio has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the Michigan State baseball program, head coach Ted Mahan announced today. Musachio joins the Spartans after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons at St. Joseph's High School in Westchester, Ill., and York High School in Elmhurst, Ill.
"We are very excited about John joining our staff here at MSU. He did a great job this fall working with our outfielders and hitters," said Mahan. "The team responded well to his coaching and he is a great addition to our staff. We now have a great mix of talent among our coaches."
Musachio, who will work primarily with outfielders and hitters, played professionally in the Chicago White Sox organization with the Hickory Crawdads (1997-98) after lettering for four seasons at Bradley University for Dewey Kalmer.
While at Bradley, Musachio was a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as an outfielder. He was also named a three-time Academic All-MVC selection for the Braves. Musachio was named team captain in his senior season and earned team MVP honors in 1996 after leading Bradley to a 40-22 record that included a pair of upset wins over Wichita State, which was the top-ranked team in the nation at the time.
During Musachio's four years at BU, the Braves finished with a record of 145-91, which included two appearances in the conference championship game. The 145 victories are the most during a four-year stretch in school history.
A 1996 Bradley graduate, Musachio currently resides in East Lansing, and is pursuing a master's degree in education administration.
