MSU Game Notes
· Today's attendance: 72,222. It is the 38th consecutive sellout of Spartan Stadium.
· Ohio State now leads the all-time series 23-12, and has a 11-5 edge in games played in East Lansing. OSU has won three straight over the Spartans and eight of the last 10.
· Michigan State had its streak of rushing for over 200 yards snapped at five straight games, as the Buckeyes held MSU to 145 yards on the ground. MSU had last rushed for at least 200 yards in five straight games during the 1996 season.
· MSU finished with 407 yards of offense (262 passing, 145 rushing), marking the sixth straight game that the Spartans have had over 400 yards of offense.
· Michigan State outgained Ohio State, 407-307, marking the fourth straight game that MSU has had more total yards than its opponent.
· Dave Rayner booted four field goals and added an extra point, becoming MSU's all-time leading scorer and field goal kicker in the process. Rayner how has 312 points and 59 field goals, surpassing the previous MSU records of 308 and 57, respectively, held by John Langeloh (1987-90). Rayner, who entered the game with 299 points, also became just the 14th player in Big Ten history to total 300 career points.
· Rayner broke both records with a 53-yard field goal in the third quarter, tying his career long set in 2002 at Northwestern.
· Rayner's four field goals were tied for fourth most in a single game in MSU history, and it was the third time in his career he has booted at least four field goals (vs. Northwestern, 2002; vs. Louisiana Tech, 2003).
· Ronald Stanley led MSU with nine tackles, and moved into MSU's top 10 in career tackles. Stanley, who entered the game ranked 11th in Spartan history, moved up two spots to No. 9 with 337 career stops.
· Damon Dowdell completed 29-of-46 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown. His 262 yards passing were the fourth most ever by an MSU quarterback against Ohio State.
· Dowdell completed passes to nine different receivers, including six players that caught four balls each.
· Dowdell's eight-yard touchdown pass to Jerramy Scott in the second quarter was his second passing touchdown of the season and Scott's second receiving touchdown of the year
· All but three of the points scored in the game were scored by the team going towards the north end zone. Only Dave Rayner's fourth-quarter field goal that gave MSU a 19-17 lead was scored at the south end zone.
· Michigan State had more total yards (68-45) and first downs (4-2) than Ohio State in the first quarter, yet trailed 17-0 at the end of the period.
· Brandon Fields had a 62-yard punt in the third quarter that rolled to a stop at the OSU one yard-line.
· Agim Shabaj had a career-long 32-yard punt return in the second quarter.
· Michigan State did not allow a sack in today's game. The Spartans have allowed only six sacks this season, which is tied for the Big Ten lead.
· Kevin Vickerson had a sack for a seven-yard loss in the fourth quarter. He now has 3.5 sacks this season.
